Daire Halpin
Irish soprano Daire Halpin, who has been described as “exquisitely voiced” (The Guardian), has sung with Opera Ireland, Opera Theatre Company, Irish National Opera, Northern Ireland Opera, Scottish Opera, English National Opera, the European Opera Centre and Theater Magdeburg. Concert engagements include appearances with RTÉ National Symphony and Concert Orchestras, European Union Youth Orchestra and Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra. Roles include Susanna in Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro, Despina in Mozart’s Così fan tutte, Zerlina in Mozart’s Don Giovanni, Tytania in Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Lucy Lockit in Gay’s The Beggar’s Opera, and Adina in Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore. Other highlights include Euridice in Offenbach’s Orpheus in the Underworld (Opera della Luna/Buxton Festival), The Maid in Thomas Adès’s Powder Her Face (NI Opera/INO/Nevill Holt Opera/Theater Magdeburg) and Hannah in Donnacha Dennehy and Enda Walsh’s The Second Violinist (Landmark Productions/Irish National Opera). Daire has given numerous premieres of new works most notably as Hulda in Raymond Deane’s The Alma Fetish (Wide Open Opera/RTÉ NSO), Nico Muhly’s Byzantium (National Concert Hall, Dublin, for Yeats 2015), and songs by Ashkan Behzadi for The Irish Language Art Song Project. As part of INO’s 20 Shots of Opera, she starred as the single character in Peter Fahey’s Through and Through, directed by Annabelle Comyn. She recently created the role of Celine in Michael Gallen’s critically acclaimed opera Elsewhere (Abbey Theatre), which has been nominated in the Best Opera category in the Irish Times Irish Theatre Awards.
