Community Members
Meet the people at the heart of Out of the Ordinary/As an nGnách, an opera co-created with participants from all over Ireland, including residents of the island of Inis Meáin off the West Coast, teenagers across rural Ireland and adults living in Tallaght and South Dublin. Their collective imagination, commitment, talent and collaboration is what made Out of the Ordinary/As an nGnách possible.
Professional Team
The creative professionals collaborating on Out of the Ordinary/As an nGnách are some of the foremost artists working in their respective artforms in Ireland today. Director Jo Mangan is a leading expert in creative storytelling with experience in site specific theatre (theatre that is made for a particular location, typically outside of a theatre) and VR performance art. Composer Finola Merivale has been chosen to compose the opera because of her specific interest in co-creation and virtual reality as a new medium for operatic expression. Librettist (the person responsible for writing the words that are sung) Jody O’Neill brings her years of experience writing for screen and stage to shape the story of the opera in response to input and feedback from the community. The team at Algorithm creative production studios offer their unique approach to incorporating cutting-edge technology in the creation of stunning visual experiences while Camille Donegan from Virtual Reality Ireland has contributed her years of experience in the arts and immersive technologies to help inform the development of the work. Nil Venditti conducts soprano Daire Halpin, mezzo-soprano Naomi-Louisa O’Connell and a chamber ensemble of professional musicians.
